From my good friend, Patrick (reprinted with his permission); his words speak to exactly how I feel as well:
Congrats on being worth 90%—or worse—than you were yesterday.
Here’s my invitation to unfriend me. You know who you are. The ones that just voted for the idiot who just implemented the biggest tax hike in US history. I’m blaming you, and I’m done ignoring it.
You did this. Look at your net worth today, and pretend you’re better off than 6 months ago.
Cost of living just went up—remember the promises of lower grocery bills? Yeah, the ones the Idiocracy just said they now don’t care about. We all get to feel that. People are going to suffer from this.
You did this. To yourself. To your neighbor. To my family.
It’s going to crush manufacturing, because people in charge are fundamentally wrong about how the economy is interconnected.
You did this. Your hubris. Your unspoken and unadmitted racism. Your flustered incomprehension of how you fit in, versus when you were younger. Your reaching for someone who claims to be able to elevate you back to that status you felt as a white American.
The combination of internal taxes from tariffs—you know WE AS AMERICAN BUYERS PAY TARIFFS, NOT OTHER COUNTRIES—and the reverberation from the crashing stock market will mean recession. Job losses.
You did this. That great feeling you had of “owning the Left” isn’t going to feel so great when you can’t afford your mortgage. “But mortgage rates and housing prices will go down.” Building prices just went up by 25%. (Where the hell do you think we get our lumber?)
If any of you know me at all, you’ll know that I am not some flag-waving Libtard. I’ve reached this point slowly, by watching Americans turn their back on their own values, being selective in what they think and see, and allowing others to be prescriptive in what they feel we should believe.
You did this. The next time we have a health crisis of national scale, we won’t have any response , because the CDC and NIH have both been gutted. If you get measles, it’s because we’re collectively stupid— who the hell allows complex problems that were fixed over decades to be allowed to resurface in a matter of months? Since when did scientist who were working to find answers to our collective problems for the betterment of society become dubious and “elite.” Get over yourself.
Feel free to disagree. In fact, seek out that unfriend button. I’m done with your uneducated opinion.
The only adjustment that I would make to the above is that I am definitely a democratic socialist, or a “flag-waving Libtard” as Pat put it, but his words still echo my thoughts.
