As mostly children of the Baby Boomers, I get that Gex X is often called “The Forgotten Generation.” Let me add another descriptor: the downsized generation.
Circumstantial evidence, surely, but I have been let go from two different companies in my life. In my immediate circle of friends I know of two people that have been fired twice in the last four years, a couple more who have lost their jobs in the last year and a half, and others who have been “downsized” as well, not a single one performance-based.
If you’re Gen X there’s a good chance you’re going to get fired some day. The second time was easier than the first for me, but remember: you are not your job.
