High Five! (21-Mar-24)

  • David WW - This is the blog of an old friend of mine and it just delights me. Clearly I am biased, but it’s one of the first blogs I read in the morning now. Impostor syndrome can stop many people from being creative, and I know I’m guilty. Sometimes I think what I might write or express isn’t worthy of note, so I just don’t. I’ve thought about writing a book for decades and just haven’t. David throws that out the window. He makes art, casting aside concerns as to whether or not people will find it valuable or not, he creates because he must create. He photographs, he paints, he makes music, he writes. Is it worthy, is it the best? It doesn’t matter. He creates. (And to that point, I like his photography and his music, so again, biased.) I’m envious of his approach and admit it has inspired me to be far less reserved. Thank you, David.1
  • Workspaces - Apparently I’ve been subscribed to this blog for a bit but had it filtered into a channel I don’t check as often as others. Corrected that and have been a bit obsessed with seeing how other people have their workspaces setup.
  • Icy Mushroom Clouds Spring from a Tiny Geyser in Tajikistan’s Pamir Mountains - Nothing more than I thought these were enthralling to look upon.
  • How the Great Green Wall Is Holding Back the Sahara Desert - A fascinating short piece with a video that is certainly worth your time about how the UN is working with indigenous people using historic, culturally established ways to halt the advance of the Sahara and maybe even take some it back. The ingenuity of using half-moon shapes to retain rain water is brilliant.
  • After 20 Years, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Still Resonates - In my opinion, this is one of the truest depictions of love that I have ever witnessed on film. If you haven’t seen it, I won’t spoil it even though it’s been 20 years, but I will have more to say on that and will link to that piece once it’s up.

High Five is a regular feature of this blog with an irregular schedule; just five links to things I found to be interesting.

Enjoy!

  1. I save these links as I find them in a document and as soon as I get to five I publish them. If I find a lot of interesting stuff I may publish these often, or in this case, it’s been about about a month since I’ve posted a High Five. You may notice that my friend David recently linked to a post I made here on my blog. It’s funny to me, because the link above to his blog has been sitting in my drafts since February 23. So what may seem to be recriprocal blog linking between us is actually serendipity in the timing of our links. David had no idea I would be pimping his blog, nor I that he would mention mine (I was so surprised, and honored, that he did!). Funny because we’re just good friends that enjoy each other’s work. I love that!↩︎
